Francesca
Symbolism of name
- The name Francesca is a German word, meaning a free woman. I think the author chose this name to match the characteristics of the Francesca and tried to relate the meaning of her name to the plot of the novel. The novel is about Francesca becoming more independent and not being able to rely on her mum all the time. Throughout the novel, Francesca is finding herself and finding her freedom and individuality, this matches the meaning of her name so i believe the author used the name Francesca because of its meaning.
Speech
- Francesca is quite well spoken most of the time. She keeps her opinions to herself alot unless something or someone upsets her. When she disagrees with something that has been said she tends to start speaking her mind and lets her feelings be seen. This can get her into alot of trouble but like most people, she sticks up for what she believes.
Appearance
- Francesca is a typical teenage girl who is in year 11 at St Sebastion’s and has a laid back personality. The author doesn’t really describe the dress and appearance of Francesca but by reading the novel i think she is quite casually dressed and isn’t into make-up and all that “other girly stuff.” I dont think Francesca really worries about her appearance unlike some of her friends at St Sebastion’s and Pius Senior College.
Actions
- The characters react to each other in a polite manner most of the time but when they are in a bad mood they seem to take it out on each other. Other than that they get on quite well and are friendly to one another.
- the impact this has on the story is that it keeps the story interesting because you never know what is going to happen or how they will react to each situation.
- How do the characters actions relate to the themes of the text ?(you need to list the page numbers where you have found your examples)
